It's here!!!

Yay my package from nmlehner  arrived on Tuesday just before I was headed out the door to go to work . It was perfect timing because I ended up having to stay at work from 5pm till 3am  because of Black Friday set up, so the package was the bright spot in the day, I wore my hand made item to work to keep me warm (ok and to show it off if I'm honest) but I'm ahead of myself  here is the package in unwrapping order:)

The package was wrapped in a lovely Slytherin green and on top was a card but as you can see I'll get to that at the end.

The first thing I pulled out was the lovely Dark mark illusion scarf. It's so soft and the green matches my jacket perfectly. I wore it to work and showed it off in the break room at the store, everyone thought it was cool, especially the guys who liked the skull and snake.:)
This is the view of all of the goodies inside, oooo where to start?!
I'm starting with the yummy food! nmlehner  sent me some lovely English tea and Japanese biscuits. Which I believe are chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. (I'll find out for sure on Sunday when I have a day to myself with my knitting and a cup of tea) Did I mention she is stationed in Japan?  So, while I'm thinking about it, an extra big thank you for not only being willing to send a package so far but also to her family for their service.
Next I unwrapped this! A pill remover for sweaters! this is so awesome I don't have one and I'm forever trying to use a razor  to attempt to fix my sweaters (the results aren't always good either!) So this is perfect, although my mom is already eyeing it,  every sweater in the house may be shaun soon:)
After that I unwrapped  this pretty tea cup and some lose tea, which I can't wait to try... Sunday won't get here fast enough!

I got help from my kitties at this point, they love it when I get packages :)

nmlehner  Also sent me  some beautiful stitch markers. Squee! I love the name of them too!
Along with the stitch markers she sent me some wonderful Slytherin Shibui knits merino sock yarn and bamboo circ's
This is the lose tea I mentioned above ( I realized I hadn't taken a picture) along with what may be my favourite thing ever, sugar cubes! I don't why they make me so happy but they do!Just look at the picture doesn't it make you smile... or is that just me? I can't wait to try both of them.
This is the yarn again and a pattern book for Stick needle knitting. So much fun! She also sent me a pattern for Such a Slytherin socks. Squee!
And that's the kit! You can see the card on the side with the kitties and the pattern. Thank you so much nmlehner ! This kit was so wonderful and full of such neat things! I love everything you picked out for me I'm really looking forward to  sitting back with a cuppa, some munchies and enjoying everything you sent me! Thank you!

only about 6 mintues left till 12am

But here I am blogging, I've been at work all day, ugh I hate the holidays in retail.  My Owl  says he arrived with his package but I have heard yet  from SmartChic if she really did get it or if my owl simply found the first house it could could and dumped the package there. I'm hoping he found the house though he's a very good owl.
Deathly Hallows was awesome, I'm thinking of  going again tomorrow. I mentioned this in the forums but I'll mention it again . CNN which is based in Atlanta where I live was covering the the movie theater I went to see the film at so there are several shots on me in a clip on there website. I was going to add a picture but my clock is reading 11:59 so i need to post this now or it doesn't count more later :)

Kit's finished! Yay!  I hope she'll like it, I'm making one more little thing to toss in there for fun and I'll spend tomorrow making labels for it and packaging it. My owl  will leave on Monday,   I hope it gets there in time for the movie, or at least the day after :). I wish I didn't have to go to work today I could get it all done and shipped off now. Stupid work. You should see my thanksgiving week I have to work until 1am on the Wednesday before and black Friday I have to be at the store by 3:30 am. evil I say evil!

It's Halloween!

Well almost,  My mom and I are getting ready for tomorrow. We started  by decorating cookies at 9 am mmmm sugar :)  Halloween is epic at our house we go full out for the holiday :)
This is from the start of the month when we started getting our decorations out, some things have to go back down stairs because there isn't room. And this isn't even counting the outdoor items and the things we use for what ever theme we've picked! This years theme is Phantom of the Opera in tribute to the touring company  which closes tomorrow.:(

Yesterday I wore my student robes to teach class in, the kids loved it especisly the ones dressed up as Harry.

It's hard to talk about my kntting plans with out giving anything away  so I'll just say they are going nicely, I'm having fun coming up with tie ins to the horcrux I picked :)

I'm back.....

Hi everyone I'm back from both of my trips, the wedding was fine (nothing like family to ruin a trip right :))  and I didn't make the cut for the auditions,  (it happens). But moving on,  I have managed to  get my Deathly Hallow's midnight release tickets Yay! I can't wait! I of course will be going  in costume.. I excited and a little sad, this will mark the end of an era  for my friends and I. So much has happend because of Harry, heck Knitting happed because of Harry, I learned how to knit so that I could have a house scarf.

My Swap project is going well, I've got the yarn and the pattern for what I'm making, and I started but realized i need to switch needles so I'm starting over again but I think it'll look great when I'm done. I've also gotton so niffty  extras to put in her package. I hope she'll like them.

I think that's all from me right now, I'm helping my mom get our Halloween decorations out we've decided to do Phantom of the Opera as our theme this year and so far it's all looking great, I'll have picture this year to prove it :0

Ta for now

Hi everyone sorry for silence I've been preparing for two trips coming up, I leave tomorrow. First I'm flying up the coast for a wedding and then I'm  auditioning for  a professional acting job.  Hopefully once these two events have passed I'll be more chatty and I'll have a bit more to post on my kit progress. See you all soon!

sliding in on the last day (again)

Sorry about that, my job is such that I never know how busy I'm going to be on a week by week bases (or really a day by day). I've been busy stalking my spoilee  and trying to think of something brillant to do for her kit, I 've got a few ideas cooking but nothing that has me  jumping up and down saying that's it! It'll come when I stop thinking about it so hard.

I'm working on my first sweater, and it's coming out really nicely:

Now then I'm off to work, I hate working on the weekends, still it's a paycheck and that keeps me in yarn :)

Getting to Know you

First, take the time to update your profile and/or blog setting forth your favorites, i.e., colors, flavors, scents, season, holiday, fiber, pattern, designer, needles, etc. The more you tell about yourself, the easier it is for your spoiler to stalk you! Include something about yourself that no one knows!

Sorry this took me so long to get up. I always find these things difficult to do, especially when I'm newly obsessed  focused on something and trying not let it invade everything.  So about me, I am 27 years old I have a degree in Broadcast Journalism  ( although a majority of my collage was spent in the theater.) I have two jobs one in a retail chain store and the other as a substitute teacher.  My hobbies are rather insane, besides knitting I enjoy making costumes, watching films editing  video, and spending far too much time on the Internet.   I grew up as an only child with my mom, although I do have a half-brother and half-sister who are both much older then me and a younger step-brother. I still live with my parents while I look for a job in my field. I am owned by two cats and a bird.

As for my favorite things
Color; Purple.  I also love cool tones blues, greens, brown, black, and even some red, yellow and orange have never been favorites.

Flavors:  Chocolate for sure, tea, hmm it's easier I think to say what I don't like Licorice and fake cinnamon (like red hots, real cinnamon I love!)  coconut...

Scents: I love the smells of Fall, woodsmoke, baking, the smell of stew ... well all smells of cooking and baking really)  When I buy candles I tend to get scents like  fresh linen and  apple, or gardenia . I don't like overly perfume scents though.

My Favorite time of Year is the fall, i love the leaves and crispness of the air, I like going up to the mountains to get fresh apples and veg from the farms. and I love Halloween, It's my favorite holiday. The candy the costumes the atmosphere. mmm makes me wish it where her right now!

Fiber: hmm I don't know I'm only really  starting to get to know fibers,  I really like wool, its so warm. I've tied Alpaca and Lama  both of which I also like. I've loved everything from knitpicks that I've bought The only thing I really don't want more of is synthetic I have way too much of it!

As for Patterns and designers I don't have a favorite at all   Although I will say right now I'd be more in the mood for quick projects ( hats, cowls, etc.) then  long one, since I've got a few long projects already started.

Probably the best way to find out about me is through my live journal  which has my more day to day life on it, I do keep some posts friends only though so you won't be able to see everything.  I may try and find one of those getting to know you  list of questions it's easier to answer direct questions sometimes then to  anticipate what your questions might be :)

Then, find the following people among the wizarding families. (Each person can only be listed once.)
  1. Someone with the same craft as you (either those listed above or another one).misslucy wizard incognito hat
  2. Someone who was born in the same month as you. Knyquol April
  3. Someone from a different country.Selana
  4. A new HSKS Family member. ynkchck2
  5. Someone who has been in 3 or more HSKS swaps.CelticMommy,
  6. Someone who has a bigger stash than you! (And if your stash is the biggest, proudly say so! Mutz
  7. Someone who both knits and crochets.Ronni-licious
  8. Someone who has the same favorite color as you.loverofallemo Purple
  9. Someone who has the same favorite season/holiday as you. bartlebean Fall
  10. Someone who has the same favorite fiber as you. Girlywithatwist (knitpicks

PictureTime!

Hello out there in Blog land, while I'm waiting to find out who I'm spoilling  I thought I'd share pictures  from last weeks conventions. I love making costumes and wearing them, I wish I had some better pictures of  these but  for now these will do:
This is my King Baldwin IV costume from the film Kingdom of Heaven. My friend took this picture while we where waiting for the elevator to arrive. I wish she had told me the fabric at the front and poofed out. Oh well.  My next project will be an over robe for this, well next after I make a new Snape costume for the  last two films :)

For the parade I wore my Sharaz Jek costume to march with the Doctor Who  group. Don't worry if you a fan of Doctor Who and you haven't heard of this character.  He was in only one story arc so unless you've seen the fifth Doctor's last episodes you would not have seen him. I fell in love with the character  after seening the story and made the costume last year. Unfortunantly the costume did not surrive this years parade, there had been a few rips in the body suit before the parade started but after the photo shoot I threw the suit away. :( sadness. I'll likely try and find something better to replace it. I've kept the mask, belt, and neck piece though.
I'm the second one on the right all in black with the mask on .

After the parade, which is two miles down Peachtree street in Atlanta Ga, temperature 89 ( we where glad it had cooled off... no I'm not kidding that is cool in a Ga summer)  I changed into my lighter costume for the rest of the day: Tintin. likely you've never heard of him if you are from the states  but he is a well known comic in Europe.  This picture was taken while walking through the hotel I saw someone dressed as the Stig from another of my favorite TV shows Top Gear. I threw my camera at my friend and asked him if I could get a picture. I was acting like such a fan girl, good thing  it wasn't the real one :) (and please don't think that is my hair  it's a wig!)

Last but not least my favorite
and longest running costume the Phantom of the Opera. My friend took these  for me as refrence shots for my costuming blog. I'm hoping I'll find some from  the day I wore it during the con because  I went whole hog on the make-up. This costume gets the best reaction, ratehr then people wanting a picture of me they want pictures with me . It's my favorite now and forever, you have no idea how much fun it is to prowl around in a long cape.

And there you go that was my labor day weekend
                                                                        :)

KIT Arrival

I've had a very long week I have been working at both of my jobs this whole week Subbing at an elementary school during the day and working retail right after I am crazy tired and stressed  and so you can imagine tonight, my first evening off  when I got home to find a sweet little owl waiting for me at my door how happy seeing him made me. This little guy came on the perfect day. After taking the package off his leg the package  (I  waited only long enough to get my camera ) I opened to find a postcard

This lovely pattern
This beautiful bag, I wish the picture showed it better it's really lovely
Isn't the lining pretty? And you can see more goodies inside! They where a beautiful handmade bracelet and stitch markers in Slytherin colors (best house ever!)
After that I opened the thing that made me Squee so loudly the cats ran from the room And I mean   it I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find this little guy in there. I may be taking him to Dragon*Con with me to get some pictures with other costumers holding him. :)
Nest to him are some of my favorite treats PG tips tea, which I love love love and Jelly Babies (which are the Doctor's favorite candy) I have to admit now that these got opened and gobbled straight away. I made myself a cup of tea grabbed the jelly babies and the adipose and  enjoyed a bit of quiet time.

  But wait there is more!

She included this awesome awesome ( did I mention awesome) yarn.  See the label ? How cool is that? :)

I also got the Yarn Harlots latest book  which I can't wait to start reading and tucked inside it was a lovely book mark

And that's not all  I almost forgot the really cute dragon fly beads that match the bag.  So Thank you thank you thank you Andromeda! This Kit was so wonderful and very much worth the wait! I love everything you sent I couldn't ask for a better kit! Thank you SO much!

made it to the weekend!

I've made it! It's been a crazy kind of week,  I subbed for a kindergarten class yesterday, first class for me this year. This morning I had to go into work (I useally have evenings on Saturday , but that means I get to watch Brit Coms on  PBS! Yay!   I sent my post owl off with my swap package on Thursday, I hope he gets there in a timely fashion. last swap he got distracted  and took a little bit longer then he should have.  I've gotten three of my four costumes all ready to go this week, i just need to finish a few things on the other one. I'm excited about the convention, I might  try and get the Phelps twins autographs this year. hmm now though I think I'm going to change out of my work clothes and snuggle with a good book, I hope it starts raining!

slidding in at the last minute

Sorry about the lack of posts I'm up to my neck in projects!  My kit  is coming along very nicely it'll be hard to send it off, I want one myself!  I've been busy  finishing a costume for a convention coming up in September (yes I'm that kind of Geek:))  I'm very excited about it as it's my first time making everything  from the ground up. I've been blogging about it in my live journal  and I've created a blog   just for my costumes because of it.

To my  Head of Hut I'll be posting kit picture tomorrow after I  get some batteries for my camera, I compleatly forgot to pick some  up during work tonight, we where crazy busy as school starts back this Monday in my area.

And now I shall retire to bed and read more Tintin  until the cats persuade me that it time to either scratch there heads or go to sleep. :)

a bit about me

Just a note most of this info can also be found on my side bar
  • Knit or crochet or both? I knit
  • Brands you would like to try but don't have easy access to: Maybe opal sock yarn, my lys no longer carries it and I really liked working with it
  • Favorite fibers/least favorite fibers: I think the only thing I've come across that I've hated was lion brands homespun but other then that I like pretty much everything else I've tried
  • Favorite colors/least favorite colors: purple is my favorite color, but I also love blues and greens, browns, black,  cool colors earth tones... I've never cared for yellows, or orange,
  • Yarn weight preferences- none really, I use whatever the pattern I'm doing calls for
  • Favorite projects- Socks, Dalek, my Doctor Who scarf,  Irish hiking scarf,  highway man gloves... i think i love all my projects
  • Favorite gadgets; stitch markers, I've love to have a row counter
  • Favorite designers- none
  • Salty or Sweet or...? both although I guess sweet is I had to pick
  • Tea or Coffee or...? Tea! I don't like coffee, I like Liptons and PG Tips brands.
  • Allergies: there are some perfumes that give me a headache as well as incense. I can not do incense at all, candles though are fine.
  • Other things you like, i.e., buttons, pens, fabric, stitchmarkers, etc. You know I wouldn't mind some cute buttons, I'd like to make myself a pair of the french press slippers but I'd have any cute buttons, so I guess if you see two cute buttons that would be awesome :)
  • Currently Craving- I'm doing a low carb diet right now (trying to get rid of all the weight I put on in my last year of collage) so I'm craving everything. I miss having my morning toast and jam most of all and my McVities biscuits with my tea.
  • Where you might have wish lists (Loopy Ewe, Amazon, Etsy)- Amazon is the only one I've got right now, link on the toolbar I didn't know Etsy had one, I think i shall be creating one for there very soon.
  • Measurements (feet for socks, wrists, head circumference) Not sure   I wear a size 71/2 or 8, I'm 5'6  but with a fairly small build.
  • Whatever else you'd like to share: I have two kitties Bernard (Bernie or Nard for short and Godiva ( we just call her Diva)  I also have a bird (Sammy) I live with my parents  (I'm still looking for a job) right now I work in retail (we wear red and khaki and have a bullseye logo) and I also Sub during the school year.  I love dressing up in costumes and making the costumes.
Um I guess that's it ask me anything you need to :) My Livejournal would be a good place to find out more about me, although you won't be able to see all of my posts I had kept friends locked until last year but you'll see more of my everyday insanity ;)

Camp sign ups tomorrow

I can't wait for summer camp to begin! It feels like I've been with this swap group forever instead of just a year.
As you can see I've redecorated my journal  for camp!

Since the school years ended I've been working on the socks that came in my kit, the sock is coming out nicely, I'm turning the heel now so it's just a quick run down the foot and then the toe... and then I have to do it over again :)  I really should learn how to do two at a time  it would save me from SSS.  I'm also now in my costuming mood,  I've put together one quick/ and cheep costume  for Dragon*con to go with some of the others I have ( mostly Harry Potter and Doctor Who), but I'd like to figure out a few others too, just to keep it intreasting.  Has anyone here heard of Tintin? it's a very famous comic, although not as much so in the USA. I've got everything to do a Tintin costume I just need to find a stuffed Milou (aka Snowy)  to bring with me.

Anywho I'll be up bright and early to sign up, just as soon as I figure out which of the awesome kits I like the best :)  it's so hard to chose!

Hello all last post of the swap, I'm starting to get a little worried about my owl, the MoM tracking hasn't updated  itself at all  it still just tells me the package was  brought in a week ago and nothing else. I've had a great time with this swap, I wish I hadn't been so busy with real life during most of it though.  I can't wait for summer camp! But before Camp I'm going to San Francisco  this Monday. I've never been to the west coast before it should be lots of fun, My mom is going on a business trip and I'm tagging along so I'll mostly be all by my lonesome, but that means plenty of time to hit the yarn shops :)

See everyone at Camp!

My Kit came today

An Owl came today! I was heading out to get lunch for myself, I’ve been working on my kit all day, and there at the door was the wee owl and a huge package. So I brought him in gave him a drink and off he flew, he sure was fast I wasn't expecting him until Thursday! So then I decided that I would go and get my lunch and come back to enjoy opening the package.

It was so worth the short wait. What a beautiful package! I wish now I had done video of me opening it so you could hear me squeeing. As you can see I had help:

The first thing I unwraped was the little owl. He is so cute and sitting on my computer now ready to take any quick note I need to send. I think the next thing I opened was the stitch markers, those are too awesome for words What a perfect thing to send a Snape fan, his memories.

Love them, love them, love them! Did I mention I love them? Next came the potions bottles.
Those are so cool! I don’t how you crocheters do it, it’s really magic! The candy was spot on. I LOVE cadbury cream eggs, they are one of my absolute favorites. And lint chocolate, j’adore! I’m always getting it for other people but I rarely treat myself to it, so it was wonderful to have some given to me!

The yarn  Gryphon picked out for me is soooooooooo beautiful! I love the colors, they really did take my breath away! I’ll be knitting with it next for sure! I haven’t seen this Snape pattern before, I’m going to be casting on as soon as my owl is out the door with my kit to Fuddles.

Gryphon sent a beautiful mask as well because Snape was a death eater and that job comes compleate with a mask:).I’m going to be putting my mask collection up again very soon, I’ve just rearranged my room and now have the space to put them all up on.

The little sock was made of awesome and I love the key chain! (Thank you also to Ambyr who knit the wee sock.) I’ve seen everyone else with them and have thought of getting one for myself but never have. The wash cloth is fantastic, I love the deathly hallows symbol, I remember just before the book came out researching all possible meanings behind the symbols, I actually got pretty close, believe it or not, but that’s another story.

Thank you Gryphon for such a awesome kit!
